While Simple Journal is a free app for the most part, some features are locked behind an in-app Pro upgrade. It would mean the world to me if you upgraded. SJ has no ads and the upgrade is the only way this app is monetized. You are not the product!

• This is the core premise Simple Journal is built on.
• By writing and fleshing out your thoughts and giving them structure, you'll reclaim your mental space, and gain peace and clarity.

🔐 Encrypted Drive Sync (and thus, backup!)

• Keep your entries safely and securely backed up in your Google Drive and synced across your Android and Chromebook devices.
• AES-256 encryption (with a custom passphrase) makes sure only you can access or restore your notes from Drive. (Optional, if you're worried over losing your passphrase you don't need to set one. Still plenty secure.)
• Uses what's called an 'application folder' in Drive. Thus you don't have to grant the app access to anywhere else in your Drive. And it won't clutter the file change stream. Only the app can access this folder and will do so directly from the confines of your device.
• A full copy of all data is stored on each of your devices and in Drive. This makes the system very robust and Simple Journal keeps working just fine offline, on the plane for example. Your notes are always with you.
• Note: Uses storage quota from your Drive. By default there's plenty, if you need more you can purchase more with Google One.

🖨️ Print your notes (html export)

• Supports images and has a search & filtering feature similar to the app itself
• Very good for additional human-readable backups
• Most browsers will let you print this file (with search / filtering applied!) into a pdf if you need one
• Finding & extracting single images is a breeze
• Note: You will most likely need a computer to properly open these files

🔐 Encrypt manual exports (AES-256)

• Want to manage your own backups and keep them extra secure? This is for you.

📓 Export single journals (in addition to all)

• Very useful if you want to print or share just a subset of your notes. Especially once you start to have a substantial amount of data (gigabytes) and exporting it all would take time and space.

🌈 Customize color themes

• Create a custom dark and a custom light theme. Then switch between them through the menu the same as before.

📌 Pin entries to top of list

• Got a goal? Or a reflective question? Something else that is important to you? Pin it to the top of the list.

📱 Home screen shortcuts

• Add shortcuts to your device home screen (edit entry / use entry as template)
• Useful especially if you want to create and use templates

⚙️ Control font size with volume keys

• Can be enabled through settings (disabled by default)
• Very useful for both making it easier to read your notes (for example when outdoors in bright light) and to increase privacy when people are around by making the text smaller
• Works both in the main screen and in the editor

⚙️ Remember text cursor position

• Useful if you often edit long entries and want to continue where you last left
• When enabled, a change in cursor position is considered a change to the entry
• Works with templates too

⚙️ Reverse sort

• Want to have the text flow more naturally between subsequent entries?
• Newest entry will be at the bottom

⚙️ Sort by modification time

• Often edit past entries and want to find the last accessed ones easier?
• Sort entries by their modification timestamp
• Note: Recently added, if you notice anything wrong do let us know!

⚙️ Edit timestamps

• Want to bring in past entries or back date entries to e.g. yesterday, and have them sort according to that custom timestamp? This is for you.

⚙️ Show character and word counts per entry

• Want to pay more attention to the lengths of your texts? Enable character and word counters.
• Counters will be displayed under each entry next to the timestamp and journal name

⚙️ Disable backup/sync warning

• Want other pro features but don't care about sync? Don't want to be reminded about it?
• This feature allows you to disable backup/sync reminder altogether without enabling sync.

💖 Support development

• Being built privacy first, there's no ads library included in the app.
• This means that the upgrade is the only source of revenue Simple Journal has.
• By upgrading, you will get all the pro features and benefits, and you will also support further development of Simple Journal.
